Pro-Act’s Manure Munching Microbes did a great job in tackling hog wastes. A collaborative study was conducted by Pro-Act, NC State University and a North Carolina hog farm.  The farm has a 1.4 million gallon lagoon with red color (typical of purple sulfur bacteria lagoon).  The lagoon is full of solids that have been accumulating for about 30 years: pumping has only been from the surface for irrigation purposes.  Prior to the Pro-Act treatment, this lagoon had been monitored by NC State for about a year.  Pro-Act started the microbial treatment on April 20, 2005.  About 50 days after the treatment, the sludge depth decreased a little over 7 inches and has since leveled off.  Unfortunately the study was terminated prematurely due to farm circumstances.
